Shahzeb’s Story

Humans of JBS/

“How many of us can truly say we’re passionate about the work we do? I certainly can. Things have a funny way of working out. I wouldn’t have gotten into sales had I not chosen to get laid off at my previous job. I felt that the job was more important for my colleague, so I asked the company to let him stay in my place. The company then asked me to apply for a sales position, which I ended up getting. Ever since then I’ve known that sales was my true calling.
Even when I was a child, I loved going to the market with my family and every time my mother bargained with the shopkeeper, I would tell her to give the shopkeeper the amount he was asking for. And its funny that I find myself in the same position with customers bargaining for a lower quote. Its not just that I’m passionate about what I do, it’s also that I’m good at it. Working in a customer-centric and people facing role, there’s always something out of the ordinary that is bound to happen and every day brings a new character around. One such interaction I still remember from my early days is how I had my hand stretched in front of me to collect a document from a particular customer and he instead held my hand assuming that I had stretched my hand for a handshake.
Being in a sales role takes up a lot of my time. However, I still make sure to take out time for everything else. Family for example, demands attention the same way work does, which is why my weekends are as busy as my weekdays. I like to travel with my husband and spend time with my mom who lives alone. I’m also very passionate about reading and interior design. I’m one of those people who thinks that books are always better than movies. I may not have time on my hands but covid made me want to get a second master’s degree which I’m now working towards.
While I may have shortcomings as well, what I really like about myself is my drive and dedication. If I commit to something, I make sure I carry through with it. I’d like to believe I’m good at reading people and thanks to my experiences, I can safely claim that I am particularly good at dealing with them.”
