Saleha’s story

Humans of JBS/

We’ve all got something that brings us joy and for me that something is to help people. I feel good knowing that I’ve made someone’s life just a little bit better, there’s really no better feeling. My relationship with people is probably why I chose this profession. When I was younger I did wish to become a doctor but the circumstances did not allow it.

I was born in Oman and was the youngest of 5 siblings. My father passed away when I was only 6 years old, not even old enough to remember much about him. However, the glimpses that I can recall of him are all happy ones. A pretty funny incident from when I was 4 years old was when I went out for ice cream with my parents they accidentally forgot me there and came home. When they realized what had happened, they panicked and rushed back, only to find me sitting in the same place having my second ice cream cone. Growing up without a father was not easy, it was especially difficult for my mother who taught tuitions and ran her own boutique in order to make sure me and my siblings got a good education. My mother really is one of the strongest people I know and to date she’s the one who brings me peace when I’m stressed out.

Just because life wasn’t easy doesn’t mean I didn’t find moments of happiness. I’m one of those individuals who enjoy other peoples company but don’t necessarily need them to have fun. Books have always been a friend to me. One of my favorite writers is Ashfaq Ahmed, there’s really no one better. I also have a love for perfumes and you’ll find several ones not just in my room but also in my handbag. I keep buying more because I think perfumes have their own story that ties in with the person who wears them.

I’m the person people come to when they need advice. I love hearing about people’s stories and their experiences. It has taught me a lot and made me thankful for everything I have. I believe that we all have something about us that makes us beautiful, which is why instead of finding inspiration from one person, I have many different people I look up-to for different things.
