Raghda’s story

Humans of JBS/

“Energetic, passionate, reliable, and a foodie is what my friends would describe me as. Food has always been one of the few things that have always been able to lift my spirits. Every time I need a break, I dress up and head out to try a new food place. I really enjoy cooking but my work schedule means I don’t always get the time for it. I actually do have a funny story related to my cooking. One time we had some guests over at our place for dinner and I was in charge of making simple white rice, and you would think that no one can possibly mess that up but well, I did. I accidentally seasoned the rice with sugar instead of salt. Needless to say, it was a day to remember for sure.
As a kid, I was introduced to world history and then Pakistan History as a part of the school curriculum. And that sparked an unending love of history for me. While my friends struggled to rote learn history for exams, I found myself visualizing each era as if I was present in that moment myself. I can totally imagine myself as a head archaeologist in a khaki suit on a dig in a remote place on the globe, unearthing secrets of lost civilizations with my team. I also have a big bucket list of all the places I want to see. It’s also the reason for my love of books and documentaries. These days my focus is on ancient Chinese methodology and their concept of the Ying Yang. There’s something bittersweet about knowing that there’s always some good that comes along with the bad.
Like many other girls, my father has always been my rock. From a very young age, he taught me to be fearless, independent, and to never give up. He reminded me to stay true to my core self, to be able to pick myself every time I fall and to never let anyone else define my worth. Thanks to his many lessons, I can proudly say that I have learned to love the person I’ve become. Now I try to maintain a positive aura around myself and keep my emotions in check no matter what life throws my way. We all have our own battles to fight but what I’ve learned is at the end of the day if you give your 100% to something you won’t have many regrets.”
