Bakht Awar’s Story

Humans of JBS/

I would like to describe my life as ever changing. My priorities and decisions have changed quite a bit, not to mention the numerous life lessons that have accompanied these changes. If asked a few years ago, my career, personal and professional growth along with constant progress remained my top priorities.
However, post 2021 and the unexpected changes this year brought along including the death of 3 very important people, my priorities now revolve around my family and keeping the ones I love close to me.
Working full time along with being the eldest sibling currently means I always have way too much on my plate in terms of both work and my responsibilities towards my family. But every week, I dedicate an hour or so towards learning a new language and mastering my skills over it. I have always been passionate about different languages which ultimately introduced me to the world of anime and KPOP through my interest in Korean. I do enjoy reading every now and then and just attended the book fair last week to update my reading list.
I realized early into my first corporate internship that my true calling is in HR. A man I had interacted with told me that I had inspired him to make his daughters pursue education as well. I am a chatty and easy-going person and find it easy to connect with others. Coupled with my wish to create an impact and help people out, I saw a career in HR fit for myself. From where I stand, I understand the labor force, market dynamics and know what skills people can develop in order to land better jobs. Through my knowledge and expertise, I can help bridge the gap and I aim to use it to help more women enter the work force.
One advice I have always held close to my heart and now swear by as well is to persevere in the face of hardships and whatever life throws your way. My father used to teach the same to us, about how “Sabr” is not always easy but the faith that Allah will help you out of every situation will always help. For the greater part of the last year, I have tried to hold by this in the face of everything that came my way and I can say, in the end, it does work out.
